Lead by Bart Vandeput, PhoEf participants explored the interdependent relationships between people, photovoltaics and light as a primary resource. The opportunities and limits of low levels of electricity were also investigated. The workshop began with a hands-on session, where playful observations and interactions with light were followed by experiments with various solar energy technologies and low-power devices (without battery back-up).
We designed a simple setup, calculated the power requirements and measured the power output. The session took place indoors, as well as outdoors. The practical part was followed by a theoretical discussion that contextualized photovoltaics against the backdrop of access to energy in the post-fossil fuel society.
