Extrapolation Factory Workshop
Z33 and FoAM invite you to a workshop with the Extrapolation Factory to co-design objects of- and for the future. The workshop takes place in the Futures Lab of the Future Fictions exhibition.
About Extrapolation Factory:
The Extrapolation Factory (DE/US) was founded by futurist and speculative designer Chris Woebken and researcher and strategic designer Elliott P. Montgomery. This design-led futures research studio focuses on developing future scenarios, embodied by artefacts in familiar, present-day contexts. With this work, the Extrapolation Factory explores the value of rapidly imagined, prototyped, deployed and evaluated visions of possible futures on an extended time scale. Previous projects such as 99¢ Futures, Futurematic and Futures Capsules give an insight into their practice.
About the workshop:
How will we live 3, 30, or 300 years into the future? What new benefits will we enjoy, and what sacrifices will we have to make? How will our designed artefacts represent us as people, as a culture? How can we think through objects about little things of life in the future? In this two day workshop the participants will work together to design a range of objects that could become a part of our lives in the future. We’ll tell their stories with short video clips that will be presented online and as part of the Future Fictions exhibition.
Participation of people from all walks of life is key for Extrapolation Factory’s work. We therefore invite both experts and enthusiasts to register. We are looking for a diversity of backgrounds, especially people from arts, design, science, (bio)technology and as well as people who may consider themselves experts of daily life. The workshop will conclude with an apero hosted by FoAM. If you can’t make it to the workshop but have an interest in the topics and people involved, come and have a drink and a bite with us on the 20th of November from 17-19h.
