An exhibition, presentations, and celebration in one, the EITC wrapup event marks the conclusion of the Euroaxacan Initiative of Transformative Cultures, which fostered artistic encounters and productions between European and Mexican artists and craftspeople. This event showcases the full range of research, activities, and artistic works realised during two fruitful years of EITC collaboration. We close a cycle that began with the EITC kickoff event on 1 November 2011 in Oaxaca during the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration – and here also we want to reflect the festive ritual elements that are an important part of Mexican culture.

We see this event as a moment of “harvest” in which all participants share their work processes, knowledge and experiences garnered during a close involvement and collaboration between artists and craftspeople in the local Mexican context. These processes and stories are important outcomes of EITC project, so the exhibition and catalogue of artistic work is complemented with and open discussion on the encounter between European and Mexican artists and their working methods that evolved during the project.

The exhibition aims to focus on the challenges arising in the meeting and collaboration between two different cultures, and to envision future projects and ways of working together. It therefore has a strong narrative character. We present a wide range of multidisciplinary work: visual productions (sculptures and installations by FoAM, nadine, Talleres de Zegache, Xaquixe), news media and applications (Performing Pictures, David Cuartielles), a documentary (Spacemakers aka Dougald Hine), and documentation of meetings and working processes.

Prior to the opening of the exhibition a public presentation will take place. The coordinators of EITC present the overall project, after which participating artists speak about their research, experiences and outcomes. The gathering will give everyone the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a dialogue about the project.

Participating artists in the EITC Wrapup event are bartaku (BE), Christina Stadlbauer (BE), Various Artists (BE), Pacome Beru (BE) and Patrick DeKoning (NL), Performing Pictures (SE), Transfer Studio (SE), David Cuartielles (SE), Christian Thornton (MEX), Daniela Porras (MEX), Luis Canseco (MEX) and La Piztola (MEX).

The vernissage and presentations start on Saturday, 26 October 2013 at 17:00.
The exhibition is open from October 27 to 29 between 12:00 and 18:00.
