FieldRobotics is a program within Machine Wilderness of in situ experimentation in which we take a range of different landscapes in Europe as case studies for developing ecological robotics. By sketching out mechanical organs and functions we aim for prototypes that embody biographies of unknown hybrid species.  That relate to local conditions, biodiversity, materials, or energy sources and which are embedded within existing populations.

This second Field Robotics expedition in the Machine Wilderness project will be a team residency in collaboration with the Finnish Society of Bioart. The location is at Kilpisjarvi Biological Station well within the arctic circle in Northern Finland. The idea for this second expedition is to have a smaller team (relative to the Cornwall event) and a longer period of development. The preliminary team set-up is: Ian Ingram, Peter Flemming and Antti Tenetz.

This workshop is funded by the Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie (het Experiment).

note: Machine Wilderness was the theme given by Andrea Polli to the wonderful ISEA 2012 symposium, and originates from writings of cultural geographer Ron Horvath in the 1960s. It is used here with full respect for that context.
